School Holidays in Saudi Arabia
After a prolonged year of pandemic-induced home learning, the kingdom’s new school year has now begun. As soon as the new school year commences, every parent is curious to get their hands on the new academic calendar to see what the new semester holds. Knowing your kids’ academic calendar and when they will be off school can help you and your family layout a solid and well-organized plan on a family vacay, day out or even study times for your little one.
The first school semester for Saudi Arabian schools typically begins around every first week of the month of September. Schools in Saudi Arabia generally have three breaks each year.
- Mid-Year Holidays: two weeks during late December to mid-January
- Eid al-Fitr Holidays: approximately two weeks around the Eid al-Fitr religious holiday. Eid al-Fitr holidays may occur in early May 2022.
- Year-End Holidays: Around 12 weeks from early June until late August

Eid al-Fitr: 3 May 2022
Eid al-Fitr Religious holidays mark the end of the Islamic fasting season also known as Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr holidays for 2022 fall from May 4th to May 6th.
Arafat Day: 9 July 2022
Another religious holiday of the kingdom that commemorates the completion of the Islamic message by Muhammed’s final sermon.
Eid al-Adha: 10 July 2022
Also known as the feast of sacrifice or greater Eid, Eid al-Adha honors Abraham who wished to sacrifice his dear son as an act of obedience towards God. Eid al-Adha holidays for the year 2022 fall on July 11-12th.
